Surviving WFH and COVID-19
Oh, here it is, another article written by some IT Guru telling you how you can work from home and everything is going to be great if I do steps 1 through 48.
That’s not me, I’m not that guy, and here is my message:
“Things are just going to kind of not work all that well, at least for a while.”
Not what you were expecting to be sure, but it is a truth. In the background, systems that were already getting antiquated are being stretched past their capacity. Your home network with its consumer grade equipment has never gotten a workout like it has been in the past week.
You’ve worked from home in the past, and it has never been like this before, you’re right. Maybe a handful of your neighbors were also working from home back then, but now everyone is working from home, and the kids are home, and everyone is home. And our lives are all online now.
Short of getting a business class internet connection at your house and the expense of business class equipment, what can be done?
Nothing.
Take a breath, take a walk. Prioritize the things that must be done and put your own personal health at the top of that list. Things may take a little longer, but the commute is a lot easier. Your hours working may stretch, but you’ll complete your tasks in time. And things will go back to normal, eventually.
We’re all in this together.
